“Overcoming Barriers to Discharge in the COVID-19 Era: Opportunities with Home Infusion Therapy”

Presented By: Dacyl Spillane, RD/CNSC, Regional Manager

Dacyl is a Regional Manager with Coram CVS Specialty Infusion Services. As a Registered Dietitian and Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, she has a blended experience of direct patient care, complex discharge management, and post-acute therapy management. In her career with Coram, she has supported institutional program development for complex patients with home infusion needs and has spoken on several topics impacting patient care including insurance qualification, transitions from hospital to home, best practices in home infusion therapy, and more.

Objectives

  • Identify high-risk patients for discharge planning
  • List strategies for early discharge planning interventions
  • Discuss patient selection criteria for home infusion therapy
  • Describe special discharge planning considerations for anti-infective, TPN, inotrope and pain home therapies
  • Identify strategies for overcoming barriers to on-time discharges

   Multi-State Nursing Licensure

With the development of managed care, tele-health and mobile populations, nurses are frequently required to work with patients who travel or reside across multiple state lines. Unlike driver’s licenses, many state nursing licenses are not recognized by other states.

Twenty state boards of nursing have joined together to form a Nurse Compact in which participating states mutually recognize nurse licenses from other Compact states.
